Thumbelisa Williams, age 86, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at St. Joseph Berea Hospital. A native of Letcher County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Conley and Bettie Frazier Jones.

Mrs. Williams was a retired employee of Parker Seal with 38 years of service, and a member of the Liberty Avenue Baptist Church. She loved to crochet, raise flower and vegetable gardens, and to travel, especially fishing trips to Florida.

Pastor Dillard Cole, 70, Noblesville, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, at Community Hospital of Anderson following a six month illness. He was born on April 25, 1945, in Richmond, Kentucky to Thomas and Leola (King) Cole.

Dillard had been a Baptist minister for 54 years and was currently serving as pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church in Lapel and before that he served at Kennard Baptist Church for 17 years. He enjoyed being outdoors especially fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Ann (Huff) Cole; one son, John (wife, Suzanne) Cole of Fishers; one granddaughter, Lillian Grace Cole; two brothers, Ray (wife, Joyce) Cole of Lexington, KY and Harold (wife, Jeannie) Cole of Berea, KY; three sisters, Mary Lee (husband, Bobby) Conner of (more…)

Elsie Centers age 90, mother of Doug Centers, died Tuesday July 21, 2015 at the Terrace in Berea. Elsie was born in Jessamine County to the late Horace and Mary Stinnett Hager.

Elsie had been employed by Westinghouse in Richmond, and Wal Mart in Berea, and she was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Church.

She was also preceded in death her siblings Harvey Hager, Jeanette Neeley, and David Hager.

Elsie is survived by her son Doug (Brenda) Centers of Berea, her sisters Ethel Anglin of Berea, Evelyn Ingram of Berea, and Dorene Matthews of Indiana, her grandsons Keith, Tim, Greg, Mark, and Steve Centers all of Berea, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Jimmy Chrisman officiating, burial will be in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday July 23, 2015 from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren.

Bailey Sue Paige Sparks, infant daughter of Curtis Sparks and Samantha Powell, passed away at birth on Saturday, July 11, 2015.

Other survivors include two brothers, Dylan Sparks & Andrew Wellman; a sister, Madison Sparks; her maternal grandmother, Lisa Roberts; maternal grandfather, Mike Powell; paternal grandparents, Billy “Sparky” & Tiffany Sparks; maternal great-grandmother, Sue Pennington; paternal great-grandparents, Earnest and Rose Childers and Lester Sparks; uncles, Roy Lee and Dillon Roberts; aunts, Taylor, Abby and Bella Powell.

She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandmother, Faye Sparks.

Connie Carol Fearington Brosi, 72, of Berea, passed away on June 27, 2015, peacefully in her home surrounded by family following a long battle with cancer.

On Sunday June 28, she was buried at the Forever Wild Cemetery near Whitwell, TN, with a family ceremony.

There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday July 19th, at Pine Mountain Settlement School.

The school will offer some meals and overnight accommodations, and those who wish to attend are asked to notify them. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Connie Brosi Memorial Fund at Pine Mountain Settlement School.

Bernetta Nelson Lunsford Moles, age 77, died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at St. Joseph Berea Hospital. A native of Berea, she was the daughter of the late Burnam and Laura Baker Lunsford.

She was a nurse, and retired after 42 years of service at the Berea Hospital. Mrs. Moles was of the Baptist Faith and she loved architecture, her family, and traveling.

She is survived by her husband Charles, her parents Lee and Connie Roberson, her children Shane, Justin, and Abigail Adams, and her sisters Natasha Alexander and Jasmine Roberson.

She retired from Lockheed Martin in California as an inspector.

She was preceded in death by one sister Polly.

She is survived by her husband of almost 67 years Bige Asher, one step-son Don Henry of Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Matthew Curtis Wade, 27, died Monday, June 15, 2015. Matthew was born on March 2, 1988, in Fort Bragg, N.C., to Darien Wade and Pamela Smith Wade.

Matthew was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and was employed at Lowe’s of Richmond.

Birtie Jane Browning Duerson, age 85, widow of Earl B. Duerson, died Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Mrs. Duerson was born January 25, 1930 in Paint Lick, Kentucky to the late William K. and Lula Margaret Underwood Browning.

She was a member of the Whites Memorial Presbyterian Church, an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan and she loved her family and her farm.

James Clifton Lamb Sr. age 82 of Berea, KY passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at the VA hospital in Lexington. Born May 25, 1933 in Rockcastle County to the late William Riley and Stella Mae (Isaacs) Lamb.

He was a devoted soldier in the US military. He was a lifelong member of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Crestview Holy Sanctuary Church in Berea. He was a retiree of Parker Seal, where he achieved perfect attendance for 36 years.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years Shirley Lamb of Berea, their children Kathy (Jim) McGuire of Berea, Jim (Brenda) Lamb of Richmond, Rod (Sheila) Ledford of London; one sister Alice Belle Saylor of Berea; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of family and (more…)

Donnie Ray Swope, age 75, died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington. Born in Berea, he was the son of the late Herman and Florence Duncan Swope.

He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Gideon’s International. After retirement as a repairman for GTE, he was a farmer. Mr. Swope served his country as a member of the Marine Corp.

Mr. Swope is survived by his wife: Jean Deaton Swope of Berea; a daughter: Libby (Dave) Miles of Bardstown; a son: Warren (Susan) Swope of Berea. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Leigh, Paige, Morgan, Lauren, Nicholas, and Natalie.

Funeral services for Mr. Swope will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Chrisman officiating. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Berea Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Jack Murduch, Paul Deaton, Dave Miles, Luster Palmer, Willis Sparks, Gerald Romans and Nicholas Miles. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shane Deaton, Joe Isaacs, Roger Davidson, Bobby Snowden, Wayne Adams and Alvin Swope.

Dalton Lane Hembree age 20, died Monday May 18, 2015 in Lexington as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on May 9, 2015.

Dalton was employed by Peercy Lawn Care in Berea and was a Madison Southern High School graduate, class of 2012. Dalton was also a member of the Clutch – Shift Riders Motorcycle Club in Madison County.

Dalton is survived by his parents Stephanie Thwaites Hembree of Berea, and Marty Hembree of Berea, his sister Hannah Gabrielle Hembree of Berea, his maternal grandparents Vernon and Sally Thwaites of Richmond, and paternal grandparents Edward and Patricia Hembree of Berea, and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be Saturday May 23, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Church on the Rock in Berea with Rev. Gary Linville and Rev. Mark Sarver officiating, burial will be in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 pm at the Church on the Rock in Berea.

Lakes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
