Robert Leeman Waddles age 46, husband of Jennifer Waddles, died Dec. 5, 2014 in Chicago IL. Rob was born in Louisville to Paul and the Late Oneida Singleton Waddles.

He was baptized at the Cedar Creek Baptist church in Louisville, he grew up in Berea KY and graduated from Berea Community High School, he attended Berea College and earned his BA in English and his MA at EKU and had attended Westminster Choir College where he had the opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall.

Rob loved music, cooking , and travel. He lived with Jennifer in Berea, Atlanta, Lexington, Toronto, and Chicago and made friends easily everywhere he (more…)

Rev. Kale Parks Conner 95 of Berea, passed away Monday December 8, 2014 at the Berea Health Care Center.
Kale was born in Madison County to the late Garley and Sallie Curry Conner.

He was a member of Middletown Baptist Church and a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a skilled wood craftsman and Southern Baptist minister. He worked for several years with the Baptist State Mission Board of Kentucky doing Mountain Mission work in Eastern Kentucky.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Beth H. Conner, his two daughters Peggy (Rev. Bill) Woods of Berea and Sarah (Earl) Botkin of Smithfield, NC, one sister Macie Eades of Richmond, four brothers Leo, William “Bill”, Garley “Slick” Conner of Richmond and Raymond Conner of Walton, KY, three grandchildren Matthew (Britta) Woods, Mark (Sarah) Woods of Berea and Valerie Botkin of SC, eight great grandchildren Trevor, Hailey, Emily, Ethan, Eli and Evan Woods of Berea, Trey and Cole Stewart of (more…)

Austin Lee Tillery 18 of Berea, passed away Monday December 1, 2014 as a result of an auto accident. Austin was born in Lexington to Richard and Tonia Abrams Tillery.

He attended Rockcastle County High School and was an outdoor enthusiast whose interest included hunting, fishing, motorcycles and four wheeling.

In addition to his parents, Austin is survived by his sisters Briana (Speedy) Parker, Payton Damrell. Maternal Grandparents Aline Abrams, Darcy Clark, Paternal Grandparents Bonnie (Manuel) Lakes, Billy (Brenda) Tillery, Paternal Great-grandmother Irene Smith, Maternal Great-grandmother Irene Clark and many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be: Dustin Hazelwood, Joseph Parker, Kyle Partin, Seth Allen, Logan Allen, Blade Rader, and Brian McIntosh.

Norma Barrett Chasteen Cochran, 75, of Berea, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington. She was a life-long resident of Madison County, born January 23, 1939, daughter of the late A. J. and Helen Bullens Barrett, homemaker and member of Silver Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include 3 children, Lisa (Don) Foster, Bill (Marilyn) Chasteen, Darrell Chasteen; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Barrett.

Funeral Service 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Reppert Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Scaffold Cane Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Visitation 6:00 – 9:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Ambrose, Aaron Ambrose, Bruce Chasteen, Anthony Chasteen, Kyle Chasteen, Chase Burrows. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jason Burnell, Brian Chasteen, Kim Stephens, Jordon Morgan, Shonda Burrows, Tracy Cope, Dennis Grant, Robert Poston, Matt Stephens.

Jacob Wilder “Lil Huck” Rapier, the infant son of Ralph A. and Amy Rapier II, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond.

In addition to his parents, Jacob is survived by: four brothers, Wesley, Wyatt, Walker, and Warren Marcum; grandparents: Jackie & Alesia Miller, and Donna Rapier; great-grandparents, Blanche Miller, and Earl and Ruby Dennis, as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his grandfather, Ralph A. Rapier, Sr., as well as great-grandparents, Floyd Miller, Bob and Marie Rapier, and Woodrow and Thelma Sullivan.

He was a retired truck driver for Mid-State Distributing Company in Lexington, member of Silver Creek Baptist Church, and had been a resident of Berea most of his life.

Maureen received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and taught English at Crawford Junior High and Bryan Station Senior High schools in Lexington, Ky.

Donna Jean VanWinkle age 66 of Berea, passed away Sunday October 19, 2014 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Donna was born in Berea to the late David Grant and Ruby Lee Newman.

She retired from Parker Seal Company before becoming a pharmacy tech at Pattie A. Clay Hospital for a brief time. She was a member of Berea Church of God.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister Linda Bookout.

Jennifer Lynn Whittaker, 39, wife of Bruce Whittaker, died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 6, 2014. Born Aug. 31, 1975, in Lexington, Ky., she was the daughter of David O. and Maxine Cooper Bond.

Jennifer was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was employed as billing/coding manager for Central Baptist Hospital.

In addition to her husband and parents, Jennifer is survived by: her children, Skylar Whittaker, Jayce Whittaker and Harper Whittaker, all of Lexington, Ky,; a sister, Stephanie (Scottie) McClease, also of Lexington, Ky.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Damrell and her siblings Cecil Powell and Martha Lee Damrell. She was a member of the Flat Gap Holiness Church, a Kentucky Colonel, and she loved to read, do puzzle books, and gardening.

William Ronald Ballew was born the second of nine children to Edgar T. Ballew and Georgia Louise Benton in Richmond, Kentucky, who preceded him in death. William was Valedictorian of his High School Class. He entered Berea College in Kentucky where he became a World Class Track and Field Athlete. William was proud of being the first Black student to enter Berea College after the Day Law passed.

William served 4 years in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War after which he returned to Berea College to finish his degree in Psychology and to Kentucky State to continue his education in that field.
