Arturo Meza Chavez, 40, of Berea, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015. He was born in La Union Aguacalientes, Mexico on January 24, 1975, son of Salvador Meza and Margarita Chavez. He was a construction worker and mechanic, member of the Catholic Faith and had been a resident of Madison County for over 20 years.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Carla Williams Chavez; 4 children, Brandy Lewis, Charles Starnes, Gabriel “Possum” Meza, Jase “Doodle” Meza; 5 grandchildren, Whitney Starnes, Chad Starnes, Layna Starnes, Olivia Lewis, Layton Starnes; 13 siblings, Jose Luis, Dolores, Socorro, Ester, Manuel, Margarita, Jesus, Anjel, Antonio, Leticia, Marcela, Gabriel, Jose Luz; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass 8:00pm Friday, May 22, 2015 at Reppert Funeral Home with Father Ulises officiating. Funeral Service 11:00am Saturday, May 23, 2015. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation 6:00pm Friday at the funeral Home.

Dalton Lane Hembree age 20, died Monday May 18, 2015 in Lexington as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on May 9, 2015.

Dalton was employed by Peercy Lawn Care in Berea and was a Madison Southern High School graduate, class of 2012. Dalton was also a member of the Clutch – Shift Riders Motorcycle Club in Madison County.

Dalton is survived by his parents Stephanie Thwaites Hembree of Berea, and Marty Hembree of Berea, his sister Hannah Gabrielle Hembree of Berea, his maternal grandparents Vernon and Sally Thwaites of Richmond, and paternal grandparents Edward and Patricia Hembree of Berea, and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be Saturday May 23, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Church on the Rock in Berea with Rev. Gary Linville and Rev. Mark Sarver officiating, burial will be in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 pm at the Church on the Rock in Berea.

Lakes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Pauline Poff Bailey, 85, of Richmond, passed away early Monday, May 11, 2015, at her home. She was born April 22, 1930, at Bobtown, near Berea, to the late David M. and Alma Cook Poff.

Mrs. Bailey was a former employee of Robinson Tool & Die, and a homemaker that loved her crafting, sewing and her flower garden. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a member of Wayside Christian Church of Berea.

William Ralph Thomas, 74, of Berea, died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at his residence. He was a Rockcastle County native born June 6, 1940, son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Ramey Thomas.

Ralph was a graduate of Fugazzi Business College and a retired utility construction supervisor with Shely Construction Company. He had been a resident of the Berea area most of his life and was an active member of the Berea Coffee Club.

Wanda Faye Isaacs Willis, age 69, of Winchester Road in Irvine passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center following a long illness. She was born March 15, 1946 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Elbert and Letha Mae Rose Isaacs.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She was born and raised at Red Lick and resided in her later years in Estill County, mostly at Wisemantown.

She was the ex-widow of the late Dewey Deffort Willis and long-time partner and love of the late Daniel “George” Jones.

She is survived by Her son Marvin Shawn Willis of Waco, two Sisters Alma Willis and Beatrice Eileen King both of Estill Co.

She is also survived by five Grandchildren: Christy Michelle Willis, Ashley Nicole Willis, Miranda Willis, Michael Shawn Willis and Brian Keith Best, four (more…)

Betty Jane Hylton, 91, of Berea, died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at The Terrace Nursing Home. Betty was born to the late Hubert Flannery and the late Bertha Porter Flannery. Betty moved to Kentucky when she was five years old and has lived on the family farm most of her life.

She was a retired cook for Berea Community School.

In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her husband Cecil Hylton and one son Jimmy Hylton.

On April 13, 2015 at the age of 92, Elizabeth BB Billings went home to be with her Lord and Savior following a short illness. She was born in College Hill, KY, a daughter of the late Sudie Lee and William Franklin Skinner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Billings, brothers Butler, Alby, Ernest, William, Jesse, Elmer, Charles, Russell and sisters Ruby, Velma and Blanche and a great grandson, J.C. Billings.

Danny Cheeks, 47 husband of Penny Owens Cheeks, passed away Sunday April 12, 2015 at the U.K. medical Center. Danny was born September 24, 1967 in Richmond, KY to Judy Ann Agee Cheeks and to the late Bobby Wayne Cheeks.

Danny was a driver for Uncle Charlie’s for many years, he loved to watch the University of Kentucky play basketball and was of the Baptist faith.

Other than his wife Penny and his mother Judy, he is survived by a daughter Kelsey Anne Cheeks of Waco, KY a step son Kenneth Wayne Hall Jr. his maternal grandmother Mattie Louise Agee, and his aunts and uncles Linda (Kenny) Johns, Steve (Helen) Rhodus, Jerry (Emily) Agee, as well as numerous cousins and lots and lots of friends.

She grew up in Berea, KY, started in college when her oldest daughter was a sophomore and graduated from Berea College in 1963. After graduate work at Eastern Kentucky University, she taught at Silver Creek Elementary School and Foley Middle School. Even though Chris’ life has ended so young, he has given the gift of life to so many more people by being an organ donor. When Chris was young he was always inquiring on how to become an organ donor. At a young age, he decided that if his life was ever to end, he wanted others to be given a second chance on life. Chris loved to live life to its fullest. She was an active volunteer and received a special award from the United Methodist Women for her outstanding work in the field of missions.
