Jeffrey Keith Taylor, 41, of Berea, died suddenly Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Baptist Health Berea of an apparent heart attack. He was a Ft. Belvoir, Virginia native born December 4, 1973, an iron worker (construction) and had been a resident of Berea for the past 11 years, moving here from Grant County.

Survivors include his wife, Crystal Combs Taylor; his parents Keith and Jenny Hillman Taylor; 4 children, Landon Taylor, Austin Taylor Wilson, Jessica Taylor Wilson, Savannah Gabbard; 2 siblings, Kristopher Taylor, Tami (Allen) Thompson; paternal grandfather, Lescal Taylor. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Betty Taylor and his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Nannie Hillman.

In accordance with Jeff’s wishes, he was cremated. A Memorial Service is scheduled at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at First Baptist Church, (more…)

William Lee “Bill” Howard, age 69, of Berea, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015. He was born in West Liberty, Kentucky on July 4, 1945 to the late Conley and Sadie Morris Howard.

He had been a truck driver and was a member of Liberty Avenue Full Gospel Outreach.

Mr. Howard is survived by his wife, Wanda Allen Howard, seven children: Scott (Jennifer) Howard, Billy (Wilma) Howard, David (Gina) Howard, Kim (Tracey) Howard, Lori (Kevin) Damrell, Angie (J.D.) Woodall, and Jeremy (Leslie) Howard; one sister, Betty Phillips; twenty-one grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Howard was preceded in death by four siblings, Curt Howard, Barbara Jean Howard, Alice Back, and Cora Flack.

Funeral services for William “Bill” Howard will be held at Lakes Funeral Home Berea on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Don Wilson (more…)

Peggy Lou Blundell, 81, a native of Red Lick, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Carmel Hills of Independence, Mo. Peggy was born August 26, 1933, to Jess Irvin and Fairy May Alexander and raised in Berea.

At age 17, she enlisted in the U.S. Army. During her military service, she met her future husband, Robert Keith Blundell, and the couple married June 13, 1953, in Denver, Colo. They lived in the Kansas City, Mo., area, moving to DeKalb, Mo., in 1967.

Cody Austin Dittman age 24 of Berea, passed away Sunday December 28, 2014. Cody was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

Full military funeral honors will be 2 pm Sunday January 4, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Chaplain Joshua Stine officiating. Burial will follow in the Cates Cemetery in Berea. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.

Kim Jeffery Taylor, age 57, of Louisville KY, formerly of Berea, died Friday Dec. 26, 2014, in Louisville. Kim was born in Asheville NC, to Harold and Ruth Herron Taylor.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, enjoyed listening to music, having books read to him, and the outdoors. One of his favorite past times was going on long walks. Kim was an inspiration to those who knew him.

Kim is survived by his parents Harold and Ruth Taylor of Berea, his maternal grandmother Pauline C. Herron, his siblings Gary (Linda) Taylor, Robyn (Dennis) Ritchie, and Angela (Kyle) Sowers, three nieces, and two nephews.

Anthony L. Martin 38 of Richmond, KY went to his eternal home on Wednesday November 26, 2014. Anthony was born January 2, 1976 to Brenda (James) Clay and Michael Mayfield. Anthony accepted Christ at an early age. After acquiring his high school education, Anthony joined the Marines.
There he became a Corporal and proudly protected and served our country.

Anthony was preceded in death by the following: a brother, Michael Joshua Mayfield; aunt, Nicole Mayfield; grandparents, William Crutcher, Ella Martin and step grandparent, Joretta Crutcher.

He was baptized at the Cedar Creek Baptist church in Louisville, he grew up in Berea KY and graduated from Berea Community High School, he attended Berea College and earned his BA in English and his MA at EKU and had attended Westminster Choir College where he had the opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall.

Rev. Kale Parks Conner 95 of Berea, passed away Monday December 8, 2014 at the Berea Health Care Center.
Kale was born in Madison County to the late Garley and Sallie Curry Conner.

He was a member of Middletown Baptist Church and a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a skilled wood craftsman and Southern Baptist minister. He worked for several years with the Baptist State Mission Board of Kentucky doing Mountain Mission work in Eastern Kentucky.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Beth H. Conner, his two daughters Peggy (Rev. Austin Lee Tillery 18 of Berea, passed away Monday December 1, 2014 as a result of an auto accident. Austin was born in Lexington to Richard and Tonia Abrams Tillery.

He attended Rockcastle County High School and was an outdoor enthusiast whose interest included hunting, fishing, motorcycles and four wheeling.

In addition to his parents, Austin is survived by his sisters Briana (Speedy) Parker, Payton Damrell. Maternal Grandparents Aline Abrams, Darcy Clark, Paternal Grandparents Bonnie (Manuel) Lakes, Billy (Brenda) Tillery, Paternal Great-grandmother Irene Smith, Maternal Great-grandmother Irene Clark and many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Norma Barrett Chasteen Cochran, 75, of Berea, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington. She was a life-long resident of Madison County, born January 23, 1939, daughter of the late A. J. and Helen Bullens Barrett, homemaker and member of Silver Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include 3 children, Lisa (Don) Foster, Bill (Marilyn) Chasteen, Darrell Chasteen; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Barrett.

Funeral Service 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Reppert Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Scaffold Cane Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Visitation 6:00 – 9:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Ambrose, Aaron Ambrose, Bruce Chasteen, Anthony Chasteen, Kyle Chasteen, Chase Burrows. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jason Burnell, Brian Chasteen, Kim Stephens, Jordon Morgan, Shonda Burrows, Tracy Cope, Dennis Grant, Robert Poston, Matt Stephens.

In addition to his parents, Jacob is survived by: four brothers, Wesley, Wyatt, Walker, and Warren Marcum; grandparents: Jackie & Alesia Miller, and Donna Rapier; great-grandparents, Blanche Miller, and Earl and Ruby Dennis, as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Donna Jean VanWinkle age 66 of Berea, passed away Sunday October 19, 2014 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Donna was born in Berea to the late David Grant and Ruby Lee Newman.

She retired from Parker Seal Company before becoming a pharmacy tech at Pattie A. Clay Hospital for a brief time. She was a member of Berea Church of God.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister Linda Bookout.

She is survived by her husband Boyd VanWinkle, her children Kimberly (Jimmy) Turner, Michael VanWinkle, step-children Boyd “Bo” VanWinkle Jr., Blaine VanWinkle and Rhonda Kay Reed, her siblings Vivian King, Phyllis (John) Tripp, David Newman, Norma (Ralph) Jackson, Delbert (Lisa) Newman, Steve (Sharon) Newman, Ronnie Newman, Terri (Wayne) Anglin and Jerry(Gina) Newman. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers Otis Spires, Herman Spires, Clarence Spires, Clifford Spires and one sister Irene Spires.

He is survived by his wife Judy A.
