BCHS Science Teacher Joshua Woodward
BCHS Science Teacher Joshua Woodward

Science Teacher Joshua Woodard 9th grade Honors Integrated Science class at Berea Community High School is designing a project to launch experiments to near space (approximately 120,000 feet) using a high altitude weather balloon. Our 9th grade class is planning the mission, constructing the payload and launch system, running the on-board experiments, and even using the project to learn about force and motion.

Berea is a wonderful community that bridges Appalachia and the Bluegrass. We are a high-needs district with about 65% students receiving free or reduced price lunch. The scale of the project is something the students simply do not see and Continue reading BCHS Science Class Mission to Near Space

To Stand or Not to Stand?

Standing Desk
Standing Desk

Several weeks ago I changed my work desk to a standing desk. I spend 10 hours a day working at a computer. After a year and a half of discussing it, one of my coworkers changed over. A couple of weeks later I pulled the trigger. Our two desks was quite the novelty for sometime, people kept coming by and looking at them, standing behind them, commenting on them, and asking us questions.

We went cold turkey, no easing in to it, no sitting part of the time and standing part of the time. From sitting 40+ hours per week to standing. The first week or so was pretty rough. By the end of the day I would be pretty sore. Now, I can’t imagine going back.

Now we have a third coworker who is in process of changing over and a manager from a different department who has adopted a stand up desk Continue reading To Stand or Not to Stand?

TechTalk with Chad Hembree Show Ends, 3 New Shows announced

TechTalk LogoTechTalk with Chad Hembree has been on the air since 1995. I would like to thank all my loyal followers and listeners that have supported me all these years. Ever since the loss of my father this year Ive not been able maintain a regular schedule. As a result I have asked my guest host and cohort Dean Buttry to assist me by stepping up into a leadership role.

After many weeks of review and research we are almost ready to release our new products. We are excited about these new endeavors and hope you will be as well.

The first step was to connect Dean to the public as a tech expert. After a year of hosting TechTalk, Dean has also started his own blog, techwithdean.com. While I love teasing Dean about his wild writing style, so far every post has been extremely informative and engaging on an array of topics.

The second step is to announce that this is the last season for TechTalk with Chad Hembree. The last show will be the year-end review and we have already recorded enough shows to finish the season. I would like to go out with a party and a location will be announced for the final show. TechTalk is not going away completely and will continue as my personal tech blog.

The third step is to announce three new shows premiering in January 2012.

The first show is Tech Overlords.  Tech Overloards is a Continue reading TechTalk with Chad Hembree Show Ends, 3 New Shows announced
