Terry Renee’ Seals Carmack, age 51, of Eastwood Drive in Stanford, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born Friday, May 15, 1964 in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Earl & Sarah Thomas Seals.

Terry retired, as a bus driver, from the Madison County School System and was a homemaker. Her loving husband, whom she married August 3, 2014, was Sherwin Carmack of Stanford.

In addition to her husband, Terry leaves behind one daughter, Amber Wells (Tony) of Berea; one son, Chris Snowden (Crystal) of Waco; two brothers, Ted Seals of California and Bill Seals (Phyllis) of Berea; one sister, Judy Adamson (Robert) of Ewing, KY; and five grandchildren, Alexia Abbott, Kadence Shearer, Marlee Hemmerling, Gunner Wells, and Jasmyn Mink; and (more…)

Leonard E. Hays Jr. 82, husband of Lois Hays passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 26, 2015. He was the son of Leonard E. Hays Sr. and Bonnie Johnson Hays, born July 10, 1933 at Tyner in Jackson County, Kentucky.

As a child he attended a one room school. He later attended Tyner High School in Jackson County. He served his country in the United States Armed Forces from 1954-1956.

He married Lois Mullins on July 19, 1956 and in 1963 moved his family to Berea where in 1969 he established and operated Hays Furniture until his retirement. He contributed to his community in many ways. He was elected to (more…)

Teresa G. Roark Johnson, 61, of Richmond, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at Baptist Health – Lexington. She was born March 11, 1954, in Madison County to Ed Roark and the late Helen Moberly Roark.

Teresa was a real estate agent with Prudential-Don Foster and Associates for 20 years and was a private building contractor.

Teresa, who was a member of Faith Baptist Church, was a caring and generous person, who was always willing to help her family and others less fortunate and in need. Avery Scott McCollum, 41, of Berea, died suddenly Friday, August 7, 2015. He was a Madison County native born May 22, 1974, a resident of the Berea area all his life and a member of the Holiness Faith.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Hullet McCollum; 4 siblings, Yul McCollum, Roy McCollum, Nancy (Gene) Collins, Sheila (Dale) Johnson; a special family friend, Larry Cromer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon McCollum; and his maternal grandmother, Martha Howard Hopkins.

Rube Abrams 75 of Jackson County passed away Wednesday August 5, 2015 at the Owsley County Health Care Center. He was born in Madison County, Kentucky to the late Roscoe and Pearl Gatliff Abrams.

He was a construction worker and U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his siblings Frances Jewell Tarvin, Charles Lee Abrams, James Marion Abrams and Leona Abbott.

He is survived by four children Vickie (Keith) Wagers, Marie (Scott) Abrams, David (Jeannie) Abrams, Janice (Toni) Abrams and several grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am Wednesday August 12, 2015 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military honors.

She loved her farm, especially the horses, cows and dogs that she tended to. She loved cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ralph Alex Wilmot

Ralph Alex Wilmot, age 80, of Berea, died Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Baptist Health in Richmond. He was born in Garrard County to the late Alex and Myrtle Humes Wilmot.

A member of the Harmon’s Lick Church of God, he had worked for Feldman Lumber, owned and operated a milk truck route, worked on a state highway crew, and was a dairy farmer. He loved to take care of his yard and flowers, and his biggest hobby was his family and grandchildren.

Mr. Wilmot is survived by: his wife of 53 years, Judith Roark Wilmot of Berea; his daughters: Mary Ann (Mitchell) Ingram of Berea, Sandra (Scott) Wray of Danville, Anita Wilmot of Berea; his brother: Rayford (Rose) Wilmot of Versailles; his grandchildren: Heather and Jacob Ingram, Sarah and Shelby Wray, Christopher and Haley Collins.

Bill Huff age 77 of Berea died Wednesday July 29, 2015 at the Madison Health and Rehab Center in Richmond, KY. Bill was born in Rockcastle County to the late William and Ruth Harding Huff, he is a veteran of the US Navy serving in Korea, and he worked for Berea College in the Food Service kitchen.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James W. Huff; sister, Sondra Lee Wolfe; and grandson, Dustin Scalf.

Thumbelisa Williams, age 86, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at St. Joseph Berea Hospital. A native of Letcher County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Conley and Bettie Frazier Jones.

Mrs. Williams was a retired employee of Parker Seal with 38 years of service, and a member of the Liberty Avenue Baptist Church. She loved to crochet, raise flower and vegetable gardens, and to travel, especially fishing trips to Florida.

Pastor Dillard Cole, 70, Noblesville, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, at Community Hospital of Anderson following a six month illness. He was born on April 25, 1945, in Richmond, Kentucky to Thomas and Leola (King) Cole.

Dillard had been a Baptist minister for 54 years and was currently serving as pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church in Lapel and before that he served at Kennard Baptist Church for 17 years. He enjoyed being outdoors especially fishing and gardening.

Elsie Centers age 90, mother of Doug Centers, died Tuesday July 21, 2015 at the Terrace in Berea. Elsie was born in Jessamine County to the late Horace and Mary Stinnett Hager.

Elsie had been employed by Westinghouse in Richmond, and Wal Mart in Berea, and she was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Church.

She was also preceded in death her siblings Harvey Hager, Jeanette Neeley, and David Hager.

Elsie is survived by her son Doug (Brenda) Centers of Berea, her sisters Ethel Anglin of Berea, Evelyn Ingram of Berea, and Dorene Matthews of Indiana, her grandsons Keith, Tim, Greg, Mark, and Steve Centers all of Berea, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Jimmy Chrisman officiating, burial will be in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday July 23, 2015 from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren.

Connie Carol Fearington Brosi, 72, of Berea, passed away on June 27, 2015, peacefully in her home surrounded by family following a long battle with cancer.

On Sunday June 28, she was buried at the Forever Wild Cemetery near Whitwell, TN, with a family ceremony.

There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday July 19th, at Pine Mountain Settlement School.

The school will offer some meals and overnight accommodations, and those who wish to attend are asked to notify them. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Connie Brosi Memorial Fund at Pine Mountain Settlement School.

She was a nurse, and retired after 42 years of service at the Berea Hospital. Mrs. Moles was of the Baptist Faith and she loved architecture, her family, and traveling.
