Mr. Sherman Denny age 74, of Mt.Vernon passed away Tuesday August 26th, 2014 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital after a long illness. He was born on February 2, 1940 in Rockcastle County the son of the late Roscoe and Docy Kirby Denny.

He was a retired salvage operator, enjoyed wresting, NASCAR, dirt track racing, and was a member of the Church of God in Jesus Name.

Survivors are: seven sons; William, Jerry, Frankie, Timmy, Michael, Freddie, and David Denny all of Mt.Vernon. One daughter; Lois Denny of Mt.Vernon. One brother; Roger Denny of Cincinnati, OH. Three sisters; Corina McDaniel of Dayton, OH, Frances Smith of Findley, OH, and Jean Mink of Nicholasville, KY. Nineteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by: his wife; Mrs. Sadie Kirby Denny, by six brothers; Earl, Stevie, George, Tom, and Floyd Denny, and by one sister; Sadie Best.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM Thursday August 28, 2014 at Cox Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11 AM Friday August 29, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Kirby Cemetery.

Mr. Lynn Teater, 64, of Richmond, passed away Thursday afternoon at his home. Mr. Teater was born in Lexington on February 14, 1950.

Lynn retired from Sherwin-Williams after over 28 years of service. After his retirement he worked as an Usher at Keeneland which he enjoyed very much. He was a US Army Veteran having served his county during the Vietnam Conflict. He enjoyed watching NASCAR but most of all Lynn loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Lynn was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

Lynn is survived by: his wife of 25 years, Sue Teater; two daughters, Kristy Teater (Dwayne Oliver), Tracey Teater (Ryan Ellis); one step-daughter, Melissa Hensley (Bill); and six grandchildren, Emma Kirby, Christian Wynn, (more…)

She was a Rockcastle County native born March 22, 1925, daughter of the late Wesley and Della Coffey Bullens, retired Berea College Hospital employee and member of the Baptist faith.

Randall Lee Huffman, 57, of Fall Lick Rd. in Lancaster, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at his residence. Born April 22, 1957 in Garrard County, he was the son of A.C. Huffman, of Lancaster and the late Emma Lee Hurt Huffman. He was an employee of RockTenn Corporation as a Forklift Operator, was a member of the Baptist faith, an avid UK Fan, and loved spending time golfing. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Wallace Smock.

Rosella M. Brandenburg age 96, widow of the late Alfred Jones Frith and Lowell Brandenburg, died Friday August 8, 2014 at Baptist Health in Richmond. Rosella was born in Cincinnati Ohio to the late Charles Haarmann and Anna Piffer Haarmann.

Rosella was a member of the Westside Baptist Church and the Silver Creek Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell Brandenburg, and two children: Henrietta Fultz, and Alan Brandenburg and a grandson Joey Brandenburg.

Amberly was a very sweet, lovable, outgoing, high-spirited, and phenomenal ball of energy! She was everything you could ask for in a child, a daughter, and a sister.

She loved to ride 4-wheelers. She loved the farm, playing with her cousins, fishing, riding her bike, playing t-ball, playing with makeup, nail polish, changing her clothes, and looking her best.

Eddie D. Wilson Jr. 39 of Lexington passed away Sunday July 27, 2014 at the U.K. Hospital in Lexington. Eddie was born in Madison County to Eddie D. Wilson and Patricia Alsept.

He was a 1993 graduate of Berea Community High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University. He was a member of Pilot Knob Baptist Church and former employee of Toyota in Georgetown. He was an avid sports fan and a diehard North Carolina Tar Heels fan.

He was preceded in death by his sister Karen Lamb and step father Jack Alsept.

He is survived by his parents Eddie D. (Virginia) Wilson and Patricia Alsept, one brother James Wilson, two sisters Jeanie Howard and Kimberly Gard. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends also survive him.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday July 31, 2014 at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Scaffold Cane Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.

Gary R. Cole, 61, of Deer Run, Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at his residence. Born Sunday, August 24, 1952 in Albany, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Warren Preston Cole and Waunola A. Cole of Albany, Kentucky.

He was a member of Hyattsville Baptist Church; Treasurer at Good Hope Baptist Church from 1987 to 2002; Graduate of Berea College, with graduate degrees from EKU; and taught Social Studies 29 years at Berea Community Elementary.

Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Nancy King McQuerry.

Harriet Dietrich Freeman Marsh, 87, formally of Helena, MT and Berea, KY died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Telford Terrace in Richmond, KY of old age.

Our Mom was born January 5, 1927 in Lexington, KY, the daughter of Joe Frank Freeman and Lois Dietrich Freeman and sister to Alice Freeman Hills and Caroline Freeman Johnston. She married Dad on December 21, 1949 at her family’s home in Lexington and I don’t think they slept apart by choice for the next 56 years. Several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends also survive.

Alberta Carrier Johnson 93 of Berea died Monday June 23, 2014 at St. Joseph Berea Hospital. Alberta was born in Jackson County, Kentucky to the late Herman and Verdie VanWinkle Carrier.

She attended Cruse Ridge Elementary School in Rockcastle County. She was a homemaker and longtime employee of Parker Seal. She was one of the first 50 employees of Parker Seal in 1951. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the Big Hill Holiness Church.

Erin Nicole Adams, 7 years old, our beautiful, precious angel, was lost to an accident on Friday, June 20, 2014. Erin was born on March 17, 2007 in Winter Haven, FL.

She was a spunky little girl who loved to sing and dance. Erin was a loving big sister and loved to spend time with her family. She was a student at Garden Springs Elementary School in Lexington.

Survivors include: her mother, Joanna McGuire; father, Timothy Hayden; 6 year old brother, Elijah McGuire; 4 year old brother, Cassius Hayden; and numerous other family members and friends.

Lenoa John “Jay” Boggs Jr. age 46, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at Baptist Health in Lexington. Jay was born in Berea, KY. To the late Lenoa John and Ethel Jean Jenkins Boggs. He was the arena changeover coordinator for Rupp Arena and loved sports and motorcycles.

Jay is survived by his wife, Jennifer Burton Boggs, his daughter, Jayla Boggs both of Richmond, KY. His sisters, Brenda Boggs, Hattie (Leon) Bennett and Chandra Lynne Boggs all of Berea, KY, his uncle, Phil Jenkins also of Berea, KY, along with a host of friends and family.

Other than his parents Jay was preceded in death by a sister, Trinia Boggs Spurlin.

Frank Thurman Waterhouse, 53, of Somerset, (formerly of Berea) died Friday, May 30, 2014 at Bluegrass Oakwood where he was a resident. He was a Portland, Maine native born December 8, 1960, son of the late Shirley Verrill Waterhouse Dean. In prior years, Frank was athletic, enjoyed bowling, and competed in track and field events during the Madison County Special Olympics.

Frank is survived by his sister Pamela Lee Waterhouse of Berea. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his father, Frank A. Waterhouse and 1 sister, Jean Marie Waterhouse.

He served as a firefighter with the City of Richmond Fire Department for 20 years and was a school bus driver for the Madison County Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Forces and had attended Grace Chapel Wesleyan Church.

He dearly loved his grandchildren who were everything to him, and he enjoyed fishing.
