He was a retired truck driver for Mid-State Distributing Company in Lexington, member of Silver Creek Baptist Church, and had been a resident of Berea most of his life.

Maureen Dowd Kelly, 69, of Richmond, beloved wife and best friend of Windell “Larry” Kelly, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Hospice Care Plus Compassionate Care Center. Maureen was born January, 28, 1945, in the Bronx, N.Y. to the late Edward and Catherine Brown Dowd.

Maureen received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and taught English at Crawford Junior High and Bryan Station Senior High schools in Lexington, Ky.

Donna Jean VanWinkle age 66 of Berea, passed away Sunday October 19, 2014 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Donna was born in Berea to the late David Grant and Ruby Lee Newman.

She retired from Parker Seal Company before becoming a pharmacy tech at Pattie A. Clay Hospital for a brief time. She was a member of Berea Church of God.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister Linda Bookout.

She is survived by her husband Boyd VanWinkle, her children Kimberly (Jimmy) Turner, Michael VanWinkle, step-children Boyd “Bo” VanWinkle Jr., Blaine VanWinkle and Rhonda Kay Reed, her siblings Vivian King, Phyllis (John) Tripp, David Newman, Norma (Ralph) Jackson, Delbert (Lisa) Newman, Steve (Sharon) Newman, Ronnie Newman, Terri (Wayne) Anglin and Jerry(Gina) Newman. Dennis Roger Spires 69 of Opossum Kingdom Road passed away Saturday at Baptist Health in Richmond. Roger was born in Mt. Vernon to the late Clarence Sr. and Margaret Gadd Spires.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers Otis Spires, Herman Spires, Clarence Spires, Clifford Spires and one sister Irene Spires.

He is survived by his wife Judy A. Jennifer Lynn Whittaker, 39, wife of Bruce Whittaker, died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 6, 2014. Born Aug. 31, 1975, in Lexington, Ky., she was the daughter of David O. and Maxine Cooper Bond.

Jennifer was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was employed as billing/coding manager for Central Baptist Hospital.

In addition to her husband and parents, Jennifer is survived by: her children, Skylar Whittaker, Jayce Whittaker and Harper Whittaker, all of Lexington, Ky,; a sister, Stephanie (Scottie) McClease, also of Lexington, Ky.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Norma Elizabeth Damrell, age 73, died Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was born in Wauchula, Florida to the late John Henry and Verna Blair Durham.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Damrell and her siblings Cecil Powell and Martha Lee Damrell. She was a member of the Flat Gap Holiness Church, a Kentucky Colonel, and she loved to read, do puzzle books, and gardening.

William Ronald Ballew was born the second of nine children to Edgar T. Ballew and Georgia Louise Benton in Richmond, Kentucky, who preceded him in death. William was Valedictorian of his High School Class. He entered Berea College in Kentucky where he became a World Class Track and Field Athlete. William was proud of being the first Black student to enter Berea College after the Day Law passed.

William served 4 years in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War after which he returned to Berea College to finish his degree in Psychology and to Kentucky State to continue his education in that field. Mr. Sherman Denny age 74, of Mt.Vernon passed away Tuesday August 26th, 2014 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital after a long illness. He was born on February 2, 1940 in Rockcastle County the son of the late Roscoe and Docy Kirby Denny.

He was a retired salvage operator, enjoyed wresting, NASCAR, dirt track racing, and was a member of the Church of God in Jesus Name.

Survivors are: seven sons; William, Jerry, Frankie, Timmy, Michael, Freddie, and David Denny all of Mt.Vernon. One daughter; Lois Denny of Mt.Vernon. One brother; Roger Denny of Cincinnati, OH. Three sisters; Corina McDaniel of Dayton, OH, Frances Smith of Findley, OH, and Jean Mink of Nicholasville, KY. Nineteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by: his wife; Mrs. Sadie Kirby Denny, by six brothers; Earl, Stevie, George, Tom, and Floyd Denny, and by one sister; Sadie Best.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM Thursday August 28, 2014 at Cox Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11 AM Friday August 29, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Kirby Cemetery.

Mr. Lynn Teater, 64, of Richmond, passed away Thursday afternoon at his home. Mr. Teater was born in Lexington on February 14, 1950.

Lynn retired from Sherwin-Williams after over 28 years of service. After his retirement he worked as an Usher at Keeneland which he enjoyed very much. He was a US Army Veteran having served his county during the Vietnam Conflict. He enjoyed watching NASCAR but most of all Lynn loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Lynn was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

Huffman, of Lancaster and the late Emma Lee Hurt Huffman. He was an employee of RockTenn Corporation as a Forklift Operator, was a member of the Baptist faith, an avid UK Fan, and loved spending time golfing. Rosella was a member of the Westside Baptist Church and the Silver Creek Homemakers Club.
