Brandon Judd

Brandon Judd was born December 29, 1982 in Richmond, KY and departed this life Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, being 29 years of age. He was the son of Eddie & Delores (Lear) Judd of McKee, KY.

In addition to his parents, Brandon is also survived by his wife, Ashley (Farra) Judd; by his daughter, Hailey Brooke Judd both of McKee and by his brother, Charles Judd and his wife Jeanna of Berea. Brandon was blessed with 3 nephews, Caleb, Cameron & Corey Judd all of Berea.

He was a member of the Birch Lick Baptist Church.

Brandon will be sadly missed by those who knew him.

Funeral service was held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Harris and Bro. Kenny Wilder officiating. Burial followed in the Medlock & Parsons Cemetery. Lakes Funeral Home McKee was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brandons family.

Mrs. Susie Deborde Rigsby age 69, of Brodhead died Monday July 23, 2012 at the Rockcastle Hospital after a long illness. She was born on April 5, 1943 in Garrard County, KY the daughter of the late Burley and Mable Broughton Saylor. She was a retired nurse having worked for the Sowder Nursing Home in Brodhead, and was a member of the Union Chapel Holiness Church.

Survivors are: her husband; Keith Rigsby of Brodhead. Three sons; Robert DeBorde Jr. and wife Ginnie of Mt.Vernon, Wayne DeBorde and his girlfriend Vickie of Brodhead, and Charles DeBorde and wife Paula also of Brodhead. One daughter; Betty Brown and husband David of Brodhead. Three brothers; Rant Saylor of Brodhead, David Saylor of Norfolk, Virginia, and Burley Saylor Pittsburgh, Penn. Five sisters; Betty Helton of Ohio, Burline Blair of Lancaster, Evelyn Tuttle of Berea, Gladious Hazlett Mt.Vernon, and Barbara Fetters of Livingston. Eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by: her first husband; Robert DeBorde, by two brothers, by three sisters, and by one grandson.

Michael L. Lamb

Michael L. Lamb age 37 of Berea, passed away suddenly Wednesday July 25, 2012 in Richmond, KY. Michael was born in Madison County to Forniss Sizemore and Debra Turpin-Lamb.

He is survived by his mother and father, a daughter Jessie Thomas, 3 sons Austin Lamb, Kevin Lamb and Michael Lamb Jr., one brother Christopher Lamb, one sister Rushelle Horn, half siblings Earl Sizemore, Dale Sizemore, Kathy Sizemore and Loretta Collins, two grandchildren Sera Alvey and Kylie Thomas and Lisa Lamb.

He was preceded in death by one brother Douglas B. Lamb.

Funeral services are incomplete at Lakes Funeral Home, Berea.

Michael Gene Smith

RICHMOND — Michael Gene Smith, 49, of Kirksville Road, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center.

He was born November 8, 1962, in Richmond, Ky. to his father Hershel Dean Smyth whom preceded him in death and his mother Elizabeth Ann Settles Smyth. Michael was a farm laborer and also worked in construction. He loved to build and to fish and he attended King’s Tabernacle.

Other than his mother, Elizabeth, he is survived by one son, Mikey Smith of Corbin, Ky.; his grandmother, Katherine Landrum of Campton, Ky.; two brothers, Gerald Smyth (Sondra) of Kirksville, Ky., and Tim Smyth (Tammy Kirsch) of Bardstown, Ky.; three sisters, Sherry Wilson (Jerry Gray) of Richmond, Ky., Lavinda Isaacs (Chris) of Jackson County, and Connie Lainhart (David) of Berea, Ky.. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Michael will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Greg King officiating. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made the Michael Smith Funeral Fund at PNC Bank.

Gary Masters

RICHMOND — Gary D. Masters, 66, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his Richmond home.

Gary was born in Madison County on April 26, 1946, to Frenus and Evalena Foster Masters Sr. He was a retired automotive manager.

In addition to his loving companion, Pamela Rector, he is survived by his mother, Evalena F. Masters; one son, Paul A. Marshall (Kathy); one daughter, Susan L. Durham (Darin); three grandchildren, Alexandria Marshall, Megan Durham, Derrick Durham; two brothers, Frenus Masters Jr. (Donna), Tommy Masters (Connie); and one sister, Norma Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by: his father and one brother, Bobby Joe Masters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Frazer and Rev. Jim Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Colorado Springs, Colo. — Dan Garrett was born July 11, 1951, to Dan and Sidney Garrett in Richmond, Ky. He died July 17, 2012.

Employed by Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, he was retired from the City of Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation and was a former employee of School District 2 (Harrison) Pikes Peak Elementary.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cho Garrett; one son, one daughter, seven grandchildren, his mother and eight siblings.

A memorial service was held at Korean Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Barbara Ann Abshear

RICHMOND — Barbara Ann Abshear, 64, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012. She was born in Garrard County on May 26, 1948, to O’Neal and Cleola Kelley Sebastian.

Mrs. Abshear was a member of Community Church of God, and she was a loving mother who enjoyed yard sales and was a great cook.

She is survived by: three daughters, Vickie Lynn Rawlins (Teddy Lee) of Berea, Jennifer Ann Martin (John S.), Kelly Sue Abshear, all of Richmond; three grandchildren, Grant Martin, Ella Martin, Molly Martin; three step-grandchildren, T.J. Rawlins, Christopher Rawlins, Roy Rawlins; one brother, Paul Sebastian of Waco; and 12 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Community Church of God with Bro. Don Rudd and Bro. Dallas Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at the church.

Pallbearers will be Michael Cain, Grant Martin, Skylar Snowden, Teddy Rawlins, Ricky Hoskins, Harold Hoskins and Wayne Hoskins.

RICHMOND — Kimberly Ann Taylor, 46, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Good Samaritan Select Specialty Hospital of Lexington.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1965, in Chicago, Ill., to George Perry Taylor and Glessie Burke Taylor. She was a caregiver at McCready Manor in Richmond, a loving and devoted mother and a Christian, having a strong faith in the Lord.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one daughter, Melissa Ann Gulley (and Jason R.); one brother, Alan Taylor (and Rose); one niece, Brittany Taylor; and one nephew, Steven Taylor; both of Carol Stream, Ill.

Services for Kimberly will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Steven Taylor, Alan Taylor and Jason R. Gulley.


Ivy Abney

RICHMOND — Ivy Renee Abney, infant daughter of Jason and Amy Abney, went home to Heaven, on July 21, 2012. She will be in the presence of her Heavenly Father, watching over her brothers and sister.

Ivy leaves to mourn her passing: her parents, two brothers, Lane Jason Abney and Reece Jason Abney; a sister, Violet Renee Abney; maternal grandparents, Kelly Bowling and Willie Martinez of San Jose, Calif.; paternal grandparents, Gary Abney and Peggy Shouse of Berea, Ky.; her great-aunts, Norma Garland and Joann Ramirez; and three loving and special friends of her family, Jessie Fritz Smith, Angel Powell and Tonia Durham.

Graveside committal services were conducted at noon Wednesday, July 25, 2012, in Rockcastle County, at the Johnetta Cemetery. Rev. Mark McGuire and Rev. Bob Taylor officiated.

Fritz and Turpin Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Edgar Lee Reffett

RICHMOND — Edgar Lee Reffett, 79, husband of Joyce Crowe Reffett, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday July 24, 2012, at the Stanton Nursing Center.

A native of Madison County, he was the son of Etta Richardson Reffett of Richmond and the late John C. Reffett.

Edgar was a retired Standard Products Company employee with 34 years of service, a member of the Clark County Fish and Game Club, a member of the National Rifle Association, an Air Force veteran, a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and attended the Calvary Christian Church.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Joey Lee (Gulena) Reffett and Darrell Wayne (Carolyn) Reffett; two grandchildren, Brittany Elizabeth Reffett and Zackary David Whalen; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his father, Edgar was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse C. Reffett, and his sister, Amy Louise Ward.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday July 26, 2012, at Scobee Funeral Home in Winchester by Rev. Paul Groves. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Mullins, Gary W. Gentry, Gary Creech, Jim Egalite, Danny wells, Wayne Pasley, Jim Bender, David Duvall, Dr. Joseph A. Ott, Watson Caudill, Keith Ward, James F. Ward and Gene Allen.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice East, 407 Shoppers Dr., Winchester KY 40391.

Michael Able

RICHMOND — Michael Nathaniel Ables, 28, passed away July 22, 2012, in Middletown, Ohio. Michael was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Dec. 8, 1983. He was a member of Waco Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his mother, Tammy, and step-father, Mike Pickering of Middletown, Ohio; father, Michael Lynn Ables of Tennessee; three brothers, Joshua, Kenneth and Jacob Pickering; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Betty Becknell; paternal step-grandmother, Diane Pickering; grandmother, Donna Williams; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by step-grandfather, Chester Pickering.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Fred Livingood officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday until service time. Pallbearers will be close friends and family.

Dorothy Hall


Dorothy M. “Dot” Hall

RICHMOND — Dorothy M. “Dot” Hall, 91 of Richmond, died Monday, July 23, 2012.

Mrs. Hall was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Viva, Ky., to the late Benjamin F. and Mattie R. Miller. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Viva, followed by attendance at Hazel Green School in East Bernstadt, Ky.; subsequently, moving to Richmond with her family in 1934. Dot was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, George Robert “G.R.” Hall.

Dot is survived by: sisters Louise Fortney and Pari Lee Johnson and brother Gilbert Miller, all of Richmond. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brother Bill Miller and sister Addie Griffith.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Martin Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from noon until service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Mike Miller, Dr. Jimmie Lee Johnson, Julian Griffith, Tom Klenke, J.P. Miller and Ben Masters. Honorary bearers will be Julie Moberly, Pat and Boots Hoskins and Bennie Martin.

Melvin Mills

RICHMOND — Melvin Mills, 77, of Richmond, the husband of Frances Lunsford “Frankie” Mills, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2012, in the Compassionate Care Center.

Melvin was born on September 19, 1934, in Madison County, and was the son of the late Leonard and Dora Hale Mills. He was a former grocer at the Home Meat Market in Richmond and was a retired auto parts manager, having worked at dealerships throughout Central Kentucky.

Melvin was a loving husband, father and papa, who dearly loved his family. He loved spending time at his home in Largo, Florida, and playing shuffleboard. He was a member of the Linden Street Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to his wife include: one daughter: Kathy Pruitt (Butch); one son: Ricky Mills; two grandchildren: Brad Broaddus (Tiffany) and Jill Whitaker (Jason); six great-grandchildren: Kyleigh Broaddus, MaHaleigh Broaddus, Gunner Broaddus, Taryn Whitaker, Cameron Whitaker and Hayden Whitaker; one sister: Christine Anderkin and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Leonard Mills Jr., and Burchell Mills; and two sisters: Marie Kent and Evelyn Mills.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Dr. Virgil Grant and Rev. Michael Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Madison Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Monday evening at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Allen D. Grant, Jakie Bruner, Lloyd Tussey, David Smith and David Broaddus.

David Keith Fugitt

David Keith Fugitt passed away Sunday morning, July 22, 2012 at his home in Berea, Kentucky. He was born June 16, 1938, the son of William Fugitt and Lucille Fugitt in Portsmouth, Ohio and the grandson of Lanson and Carrie Chamberlain of Ashville, Ohio. After attending East High School in Sciotoville, Ohio David enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 4 years. After his time in the Air Force, he worked for the Ford Motor Company before beginning a career as an engineer for Northfork & Western Railroad. He worked as an engineer for Northfork & Western and then Northfork & Southern for 27 years before retiring in 1990.

David was married for 44 years to his wife and best friend Carol. From this union came three children: Chad Lanson Fugitt (wife Jennifer) of Corbin, Kentucky, Jeffrey William Fugitt (wife Cathy) of Richmond, Kentucky, and Michael David Fugitt (wife Brandy) of Portsmouth, Ohio. David was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia. From this union came Timothy Keith Fugitt of Chicago, Illinois and Penny Jo Moore (husband Rick) of Portsmouth, Ohio. In all he was blessed with 5 children, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

David was a member of Glades Christian Church in Berea, Kentucky. He was a lifelong fisherman. He enjoyed breeding and showing Tennessee Walking Horses. His family and his friends will miss him.

Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday July 25, 2012 at Lakes Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Fugitt and Pastor Rick Fulton officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-9 pm at the funeral home.
