Shirley Verrill Waterhouse Dean
Shirley Verrill Waterhouse Dean, 77, of Berea, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at her residence. She was a Westbrook, Maine native born April 21, 1936, daughter of the late Norman and Phyllis Malacria Verrill.
U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Regional Coordinator for the Office of Economic Development during the Lyndon Johnson Administration which brought her to Berea 46 years ago. She was a retired Social Worker having received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Kentucky University, Class of 1975, and former employee of the Berea College Admissions Office. Shirley was a Honorable Kentucky Colonel and member of Union Church.
Survivors include 2 children, Pam Waterhouse, Frank Waterhouse; 2 sisters, Diane Gilman, Linda Tardiff, both of other states; as well as numerous friends and relatives. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Jean Waterhouse.

Glyndon “Preach” Stewart, 78, of Berea died Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a Sand Gap, Kentucky native born July 20, 1935, son of the late Charlie and Nora Alexander Stewart.
He was a farmer and member of Friendship Valley Baptist Church. “Preach”, as he was known by family and friends, loved working with animals, especially horses, drawing pictures of birds and good music. He enjoyed wood carving, fishing, visiting with friends and sharing stories.
Survivors include 5 sisters, Faye (Bob) Dodds, Sue Wiles, Barbara (Frank) McCarren, Sherlene (Arnold) Reed, Maxine (Randy) Rose; 2 sisters-in-law, Gladys Stewart, Lena Stewart; 1 brother-in-law, Kenneth Ashcraft; his caretakers, Jeffery Sparks and Amy Lainhart; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

James William Gregory Jr.
James William Gregory Jr., 55, of Lancaster, the husband of Tracy Asbury Gregory, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. He was born January 23, 1959, in Harlan County, to Retha Saylor Gregory Joseph and the late James William Gregory, Sr.
He had served in the U. S. Navy and was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his mother, Retha, and his wife, Tracy, James is survived by one daughter, Jamie Nicole Asbury Gregory of Lancaster; one son, Bryan Isiah Gregory of Lancaster; two step-sons, Jason Deaton and Bobby Lee Deaton, both of Lancaster; two brothers, John Henry Gregory of London and Elijah Gregory of Lancaster; two sisters, Cathy Asbury and Sherry Gregory, both of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2013, at the home of his uncle at 37 Sycamore Drive, Wallin, Kentucky in Harlan County. Graveside services and burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2014, at the Simpson Cemetery, in Wallin, Kentucky.

Lillian Rae Williams
Lillian Rae Williams, 99, passed peacefully into eternity on Thursday, January 23, 2014, just 4 days before her 100th birthday. She was a Berea native born January 27, 1914, daughter of the late Allen, Sr. and Arrah Katherine Short Williams.
Lillian graduated from Berea College, taught in several one and two room schools in Kentucky, initiated and organized the first Bible School in Berea, and taught Japanese children in the internment camps in California during WWII. Following that she surrendered her life to become a missionary for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board and served many years in Bogota, Columbia, South America. Upon retirement she returned to Berea and taught Spanish and English at Madison Central until her retirement in 1975.
She was a lifelong member of Berea Baptist Church where she served in many capacities until her health declined. She was a member of Laurel Ridges Chapter of the DAR, member of KEA, NEA, past member of Madison County Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include 2 siblings, Margaret Clore, V.A. Williams; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 9 siblings, Jewell Robbins, Mary Ellen Williams, Vadys Hurley, Allen Williams, Jr., Carl Williams, Frederick Williams, James Williams, Nicholas Williams, Wallace Williams; as well as 3 nephews.
Funeral Service 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Reppert Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation 11:00 AM Saturday until service time.

Geneva Mae Howard Jones Doolin
Geneva Mae Howard Jones Doolin, 78, widow of Andrew Doolin, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was born February 19, 1935, in Richmond, Kentucky, daughter of the late Everette Lee and Edith Gilbert Ray Howard.
Geneva was a graduate of Kirksville High School, a homemaker and a member of the Unity Baptist Church, where she enjoyed church activities and her church family.
Survivors include one: son, Nelson Jones Jr. (Judy) of Winchester, Kentucky; one sister, Shirley Scott of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Andrew, and her parents, Everette Lee and Edith Gilbert Ray Howard, she is also preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel, Glyndon and O’Neal Howard.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Joshua Delbert Woods
Joshua Delbert Woods was born January 11, 1984, at Fort Knox, Ky., the son of J.L. Woods & Susan Francisco.
He attended Madison Southern High School in Berea, Kentucky, graduating in 2002. He later moved to Fontana, California, and attended Le Cordon Bleu College for Culinary Arts in Pasadena, California. Joshua then moved to Bogalusa, Louisiana, where he started his own food service business called “Woodies,” which he ran with his fiancée, Amanda. He enjoyed cooking, watching the food network and spending time with his children.
Joshua passed from this life the morning of January 17, 2014, at the age of 30.
He is survived by: his fiancée, Amanda Nicole Horn; daughter, Amber Nicole Horn; son, Joshua Andrew Horn; mother, Susan Francisco-Stewart; stepfather, Benjamin Travis Stewart; father, J.L. Woods; stepmother, Christine Harris-Woods; grandparents, Everette & Mary Francisco (deceased); Delbert Woods (deceased) & Mae Woods, Archie & Helen Stewart; siblings, Jeremy Woods (sister-in-law Laura Woods), Haley Frye, Richard & Neenah Harris, Matthew & John Stewart; aunts & uncles, Belinda Turner (deceased) & Ron Turner, Druella & Rick Woods, Melissa & Becky Woods, Mark, Tony & Sean Francisco, Kitty Francisco-Griffin, Jackie Francisco-Barnes, and Jeffrey Grubb. Etta Faye Taylor
Etta Faye Taylor, 97, of Poosey Ridge, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. She was born in Madison County, Ky., on May 21, 1916, the daughter of the late Walter and Minerva Masters Sanders.
She was a graduate of Newby High School and was a housewife and farmer. She enjoyed participating in the Extension Service programs and was a long time member of the Cottonburg Homemakers Club. Etta Faye was an active member of the Salem Christian Church and enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Edward Taylor; one brother, Cecil Sanders; and two sisters, Alma Lee Weaver and Valeria Kanatzer.
Survivors include: her son, Deamie Taylor of Poosey Ridge; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Forniss Blanton Sizemore
Forniss “Homer” Blanton Sizemore, 61, husband of Janice Fryer Sizemore passed away Friday, January 17th, 2014 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington KY, after a sudden illness. He was a native of Madison County, a son of the late Ad and Della Mae Barrett Sizemore. Mr. Sizemore was a retired farmer, and a pastor in the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael Lamb; his brother Earl Sizemore; his sisters Lona VanWinkle, Wilma Callahan, and Virginia Sizemore.
Survivors other than his wife of 37 years, Janice, include his children Kathy Lynn Sizemore, Forniss Earl (Theresa) Sizemore, Loretta (Paul) Collins, Homer (Beth) Sizemore, Christopher Lamb, Wendell Parrett, and Angela Powell; his sister Brenda (Casey) Lakers; twenty-one grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, January 24th, 2014, 12:00 pm at the Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 6:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Thomas Brent Rogers, age 51, of Englewood, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 20, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
He was employed by Wright Patterson Air Force Base in logistics. He was a member of Christian Life Center Church. He previously served as a pastor at New Jasper United Methodist Church in Xenia, Ohio. He was a past member of the Jamestown Area Ministerial Association. Tom was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by: his wife of 30 years, Susan (VanDyke) Rogers; son, James Rogers of Englewood, Ohio; daughte, Mary Beth Rogers of Englewood, Ohio; father, Frank E. (Margaret) Rogers of Lexington; mother, Alberta Whitaker of Richmond; brother, Steve Rogers of Richmond; sister-in-law, Shirley VanDyke of Vandalia, Ohio; nieces, Annie (Richard) Spitzer of Vandalia, Ohio; and Allie Rogers of Richmond.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Christian Life Center Church (3489 Little York Road, Dayton, Ohio) with Rev. R. Michael Helling officiating. Mary Alice Howe
Mary Alice Howe, 79, mother of Ronnie W. Howe, passed away Wednesday morning, January 22, 2014, at Richmond Health and Rehab-Kenwood in Richmond, Kentucky. She was born February 25, 1934, to the late Henry and Maggie Spears Howe, also of Richmond.
Mary enjoyed throughout her life caring for others and spending lots of time with family. Some of her favorite pastimes included working puzzles, playing bingo with family and friends and watching Westerns on TV. You could often catch her sitting outside enjoying the outdoors.
Survivors include: her son Ronnie (Connie) Howe of Richmond, Ky.; two sisters, Linda (Bill) Johnson of Lexington, Ky., and Norma Godsey of Dayton, Ohio.
Ms. Howe is also survived by: two grandchildren, Amy (Camiel) Habets and Jennifer (Allen) Goins, both of Richmond, Ky.; two great-grandchildren; Kylie Goins and Elena Habets; and a host of friends and extended family.
Besides her parents, Ms. Howe was preceded in death by: three brothers, Arthur Howe, Robert Howe and Marvin Howe; and one sister, Pearl Crippin.

Shirley Morgan Alexander, 73, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Baptist Health – Richmond. She was born April 27, 1940, in Richmond, Kentucky, to George Walter and Wilma Bond Morgan, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by her husband, Joseph Alexander III of Richmond; one daughter, Lencia A. Mountjoy (Shawn) of Danville, Kentucky; one son, J. Alexander IV (Holly) of Chehalis, Washington; nine grandchildren, Kip, Hannah, Hunter, and Heath Mountjoy, Tate Sonnenburg (Eric), Joseph Alexander V, Gunnar, Ivy and Addison Alexander; one great granddaughter, Macy Sonnenburg.

Danny Wayne Mason
Danny Wayne Mason, 68, of Winchester, Kentucky passed away Monday, January 20, 2014, at his residence. Born February 10, 1945,
Danny lived most of his life in the Baldwin area of Madison County. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially being able to hunt and fish on the surrounding farms in the Baldwin community with friends and family. Most endearing to Danny was his family and the love he had for each of them. His kindness and compassion will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
Danny was a man of great faith and love for the Lord. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He loved to sing and listen to the old gospel songs that he grew up hearing while attending church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Malcolm and Dorothy Jones, and Daniel Mason.
Mr. Mason is survived by his wife; Gladys Woods Mason, a daughter, Shannyn (Robert) Mason Johnsen; Berea, KY; his sisters: Carolyn (John) Revel, Richmond, KY; Barbara M. (Darrell) Thomas, Richmond, KY; Betty M. Adams, Richmond, KY; a brother, David M. (Kay) Jones, Richmond, KY; his grandchildren: Bridget (Will) Johnsen Rodgers, Michael (Kristen) B. Johnsen, Bailee E. Dorothy Mae Renfro, 84, of Richmond, passed away Sunday morning, January 19, 2014. Dorothy was born in Clark County on July 28, 1929, to the late Stanley and Fannie Stokley Watkins.
She was a retired cook for the 76 Truck Stop and Jerry’s. She was a member of the Winchester Pentecostal Church.
She is survived by: her son, James Harold Renfro; one brother, Joseph Watkins (Joann); two grandchildren, James Renfro (Carolyn), and Tammy Dees; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Shirley Renfro; one daughter-in-law, Marlene Renfro; one brother, John Henry Watkins; two sisters, Opal Arrowood and Francis Jewel Watkins.

Jerry Wayne Smith
Jerry Wayne Smith, son of Thomas and Mary (Cain) Smith of London, Kentucky, was born in Almagorda, New Mexico, on April 23, 1977. He was united in marriage to Cordellya (Chadwell) Smith of London, Kentucky, who survives.
He also is survived by: two children, Zachary Adams and Elizabeth Smith, both of London, Kentucky; a brother, Jamey Smith of Waco, Kentucky; his grandmothers, Belva Smith of Waco, Kentucky, and Etta Cain of Dreyfus, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by: his grandfathers, Millard Smith and Miller Cain.
He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church of Waco, Kentucky, and was a nurse by profession. Jerry Wayne Smith departed this life on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Saint Joseph London hospital.

Harold Dean Smith
Mr. Harold Dean Smith, age 64 of Berea, Kentucky, husband of Sheryl Durham Smith, passed away Monday January 20, 2014 at his residence in Berea. Mr. Smith was born in Spiro, Kentucky on September 12, 1949, a son of the late Earl and Edna Pauline Bradley Smith.
He was a twenty year employee of Tokico Manufacturing in Berea, and enjoyed muscle cars and working in the yard. On Mother’s Day of 2013, Harold made a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife: Sheryl Durham Smith of Berea, Kentucky; Four children: Stephanie Smith of Pendleton, Kentucky, Melissa (Mark) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jonathan Bradley of Florence, Kentucky, Stephanie Bradley Angel of Berea, Kentucky; Five grandchildren: Jeffrey Smith, Nicholas Smith, Ashley Spencer, Morgan Keiner, Kinleigh Davidson,; Two great-grandchildren and an expectant third great-grandchild; Four brothers: Eugene (Betty) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Donnie (Roxanne) Smith of Louisville, Kentucky, Roger (Cassie) Smith of Corydon, Indiana, Jeffrey (Donna) Smith of Brodhead, Kentucky; Four sisters: Barbara (Daryl) McFerron of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, Linda Fisher of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carolyn Damrell of Berea, Kentucky, Lisa Reams of Mount Vernon, Kentucky and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Loretta Jenny Tipton Cain
Loretta Jenny Tipton Cain, 84, widow of Gordon Cain, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at Hospice of The Bluegrass, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born March 30, 1929, in Estill County, daughter of the late Hubert and Viola Tipton. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include: two sons, Gordon Cain Jr. of California, and Lee Anthony Cain (wife Barbara Dixon Cain) of Waco, Kentucky.
In addition to her parents, Hubert and Viola Tipton; and husband, Gordon Cain; Loretta is preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Lee Tipton.

Catherine Pingleton, 80, of Fall Lick Rd. Lancaster, died Wednesday January 22, 2014 at Christian Care Center in Lancaster KY. Surviving is her husband of 60 years Floyd. Catherine worked at Cowden’s Manufacturing for many years, was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans(DAV) auxiliary, but her true passion was crafts, and crocheting. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Also surviving is a son Dean Pingleton, a grandson Scott Pingleton(Amy), a daughter in law Harriett Pingleton all of Lancaster; a sister Gladys’ Laws of Richmond KY; two great grandchildren Abigail and Seamus Pingleton; and three step-great grandchildren Cassandra, Hayley, and Kaleb Robbins. Catherine was preceded in death by three brothers Leonard “Bub”, James”Lugar”,and Bill Brooks; also preceded in death by five sisters Thursie Carpenter, Lilly Thomas, Mary Thacker, Ada Thacker, and Loretta “Sis” Chasteen.

Louella B. Walker
Louella B. Walker, 91, of Paint Lick, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was born February 16, 1922 in Garrard County , was a 30 + year employee of Cowdens Manufacturing, a member of Lancaster United Methodist Church and was the widow of John Wade Walker.
Her survivors include her step-son John Wade Walker III of Paint Lick.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Ramsey Funeral Home by Rev. Don Hatton, with burial following in Paint Lick Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am till service time Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Tudor, Wayne Day, Danny Day, Chuck Perraut, John Wade Walker III and Jonathon Day.
Dan W. Ledford
Dan W. Ledford, 95, of Richmond Road in Paint Lick, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at Kenwood Health & Rehab in Richmond. Born July 29, 1918 in Mariba, Kentucky, Dan was a son of the late James Martin & Maggie Elizabeth Ward Ledford.
He had been a farmer and a longtime school bus driver, was a World War II Army veteran , a member and elder of Paint Lick Presbyterian Church , a member of the American Legion & D.A.V.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva LaVerne Rhodus Ledford, and 2 brothers, Smith & W.C. “Cliff” Ledford.
His survivors include a son, Dan Ward (Janet) Ledford of Lancaster, a daughter, Judith Ledford Sparks of Lexington, a grandson, James Daniel Ledford , two step grandsons, Keith & Scott Long, and two step great grandchildren Samantha & Sarah Long.
Services will be 12 Noon Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Paint Lick Presbyterian Church by Rev. Bryce McGowan with burial following in Paint Lick Cemetery with military rites by the Caswell Saufley Post # 18 of the American Legion. Visitation will be from 3—7 PM Sunday January 26, 2014 at Ramsey Funeral Home and from 10:00 am till service time Monday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie & Bill Ledford, Lloyd & Jerry Rhodus, Gary Clark & Bryan Bolton.
In lieu of flowers contributions may go to the National Kidney Foundation or the Paint Lick Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
Regina Marilee Willis
Regina Marilee Willis, age 46, of Wisemantown Road in Irvine passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center following a long illness. She was born February 4, 1967 in Madison County and was the daughter of Wanda Faye Isaacs and the late Dewey Deffert Willis. She attended the Concord Baptist Church and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
She is survived by Her mother Wanda Faye Isaacs, 1 Brother Marvin John Willis of Madison Co., Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Kevin Timothy Willis.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 27, 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Tackett Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home.
