Rebecca Ann Carpenter Green
RICHMOND — Rebecca Ann Carpenter Green, 44, of Waco, died Friday, March 9, 2012, in Compassionate Care Center.
She was born on Dec. 15, 1967, in Madison County. She was a member of the Viney Fork Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and gardening. She deeply loved her family and enjoyed teaching her daughters many life lessons.
She is survived by: her husband, James “Jimmy” C. Green; two daughters, Angela Kristina Green and Cindi Ann Green; her parents, Luther and Wilma Carpenter; one brother, Johney Carpenter; her father and mother-in-law, Carl and Grace Green; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Diana Kaye Carpenter.
Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, March 12, 2012, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Brother Harry Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Paul Green, David Green, Jordan Green, Richard Green, Tony Pearson and Chris Gibson.
Tracy B. Pitts
Tracy B. Pitts age 47 of Scaffold Cane Road, passed away Sunday March 4, 2012 at his home. Tracy was born in Berea, Kentucky to Donald Pitts and Shirley Jones Pitts. He was a former painter and veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his parents, two children Desmond Pitts and Destiny Pitts both of Hamilton, Ohio, one brother Greg Pitts of Lexington, one sister Donna Kristi Hakola of Mt. Vernon and grandparents Joe E. and Gladys Pitts.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Tuesday March 6, 2012 at Lakes Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will begin at 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Harold VanWinkle, Shannon VanWinkle, E.J. Cole, Tyler Parker, Steve Davis and Tommy Davis.
James Roberts age 76, formerly of Berea, passed away Friday in Somerset. James was born in Manchester, Kentucky to the late Nelson and Laurel Gilbert Roberts. He was a retired press operator for Ford Motor Company.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Helen Roberts in 2010. He is survived by six siblings Donald, Junior, Billy, Melvery, Martha and Minnie.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Saturday March 10, 2012 at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. James Floyd officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of services on Saturday.
Edith Clines Long
RICHMOND — Edith Clines Long, 68, of Richmond, passed away, Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in the Richmond Health and Rehab Complex – Madison Manor.
She was born July 14, 1943, in Richmond, to the late George and Faith Todd Clines. Edith had been a secretary and bookkeeper, working with her husband for many years in the family business and retired from the Department of Criminal Justice Training at EKU. She was a member of Westside Christian Church of Richmond.
She is survived by: her husband, Sammy J. Long of Richmond; two daughters, Ellen “Tweetie” Long Reeves (Steele) and Evelyn “Susie” Long Durr (Eric), both of Richmond; as well as four grandchildren, Samantha and Kevin Alexander, Lesley Durr and Casey Reeves.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel David Long.
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Bro. Mike Simpson officiating. Private burial will be at Madison County Memorial Gardens on Monday.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell.
Members of the adult couples class of Westside Christian Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Gene A. Jones
Gene A. Jones, 75, of Concord Road, Richmond, passed away, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the home of his son in Panola.
He was born on April 1, 1936, in Laurel County, Kentucky, to the late Rev. L.T. and Mattie Crook Jones. He was a retired truck driver, most recently with DRS Trucking Company, and U. S. Army veteran. Gene was of the Holiness faith and he loved to bowl and fish in his spare time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Wilson Jones; one daughter. Rhonda Baker (Earl) of Berea; two sons, Donald Gene Jones (Julie) of Panola, Randall Keith Jones (Nicole) of Richmond; one sister, Ida Bowlin; three brothers, Johnny, Frank, and Glenn Jones; five grandchildren, Jerry Jones, Kim Robar Austin Jones, Chad Isaacs and Kaitlyn Isaacs; three great grandchildren, Brittany Jones, Jesse Jones and Natalie Robar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie “Arch” Jones, Roland “Scrub” Jones and David “Duck” Jones, and one sister Francis “Puny” Jones.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Wilson, Bro. Marshall Abrams, and Bro. Donald Gene Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 – 9 p.m. on Thursday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell.

Roy Eden, 84, widower of Bernice Elam Eden, died Wednesday, March 07, 2012 at St. Joseph Berea. Mr. Eden was born in the Cartersville community of Garrard County to the late Arthur and Dovie Damrell Eden. He was of the Holiness faith and attended the 1016 Holiness Church. Mr. Eden owned and operated the Berea Ashland Service Station from 1955-1967, the I- 75 Texaco from 1970-1978 and Eden’s Auto Service from 1978 until his death.
Mr. Eden was also preceded in death by: his brothers, Sam, Edgar, Walter, John and Forrester Eden and one sister, Virgie Rowlette.
He is survived by his children: Randal Eden, Darrel Eden and his wife Celita, Marilynn and her husband Robert Rhodus and Rhonda Eden all of Berea. Two grandchildren; David and his wife Britta Eden of Lexington and Eden Lewis of Berea. Three step grandchildren Bobbie McCracken, Elitha and her husband Richard Caudill and Kathleen and her husband Dwayne Newby.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the 1016 Holiness church with Bro. Leonard Wilder, Bro. Mark Sarver, Bro. Stephen Hobbs and Bro Darrel Eden officiating. Private family burial will be Monday. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time on Saturday. Pallbearers will be David Eden, Mark Sarver, Dustin Hutchins, Gene Erwin and Herman Johnson.

Ruth Evelyn DeJarnette McCormick
Ruth Evelyn DeJarnette McCormick was born November 30, 1915 in Madison County, Kentucky to James DeJarnette and Anna Willa Biggerstaff DeJarnette. She passed away on February 25, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, George, Sam and Colin DeJarnette, and daughter Kitty Garrett.
Survivors include sons Duke Morgan and wife Betty of Jefferson TX and Don Morgan of Westminster CA, seven grandchildren (Kim and Austin Morgan, Jenny Escalera, Brian and Jeff Garrett, Christy Fossum and Heather Knopp), eight great grandchildren (Kara Humphries, Patricia and Joe Morgan, Monique, Dominic, Brandon, and Ashley Escalera and Dallas Morgan), one great great grandson (Charlie Humphries), and a sister-in-law, Gladys Plummer.
Services were held in Phoenix, Arizona. There will be no local service, however, local visitation will be held from 2 – 5 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Richmond Cemetery at the DeJarnette plot.
Margaret L. Davis
RICHMOND — Margaret L. Davis, 87, of Norcross, Ga., formerly of Richmond, died March 5, 2012. Davis was the widow of Woodrow Davis. She was born in Pebworth, Ky., on Sept. 10, 1925, to Fred and Edna Hammons Edwards. Here in Richmond, she was referred to as the “walking lady” or “Granny of Madison County.”
She is survived by: two sons, Gary L. Land and Edison L. Land, both of Richmond; two daughters, Connie Duvall of Frenchburg, Ky., and Joyce Elliott of Norcross, Ga.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Clark (Harry), Eldon Land (Heidi), William Jason Elliott, Misty Fletcher, Crystal Land and Stacey Cristy (Nick); five great grandchildren; and her brother, William Edwards.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: her brother Rudale Edwards; and her sisters, Betty, Suzie, Barbara, Bertha and Ruth.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Earl Hisel officiating. Burial will follow in the Newnan Cemetery in Owsley County.
Visitation will be after 11a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dorothy Martin, age 73 of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Berea, KY on May 19, 1938 the daughter of Taylor and Nettie Clark Shearer.
She worked for Parker Hannifin Corporation for 15 years and was self-employed for 33 years as an Electrologist. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, she loved quilt making, gardening and looking after her family and friends. One could always be assured of a home cooked meal and her fried pies were famous. Dorothy was a loving and giving person, friend to many and she will be remembered for her kindness and generosity.
Mrs. Martin is survived by three brothers: John T. and Rita Shearer of Clayton, IN, Ralph B. and Cathy Shearer of Richmond, KY and Harold E. Shearer of Berea, KY; two nieces and ten nephews. Also surviving is Jewell Anderkin Benscoter who was as close as a daughter and a very special friend: Martin Pete Ridner. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years: Guy C. Martin and a sister: Mary Ellen Shearer Rogers.
RICHMOND — Edward “Wes” Adams of Richmond passed away February 10, 2012, in the Compassionate Care Center after a long illness.
Wes is survived by: his wife, Sandra K. Adams; two sons, Edward “Eddie” Adams of Berea, and Brian Allen of Virginia; one daughter, Susan J. Carle of Alabama; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Papaw is greatly missed.
No services are planned.
RICHMOND — Shari Sue Fields, 51, died Friday, March 2, 2012. A celebration of her life will be conducted from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Waco Baptist Church in Waco on Hwy 52.

Alice Jane Gillen Million
Alice Jane Gillen Million, 86, of West Locust St., passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the Berea Health Care Center.
Mrs. Million, daughter of the late Roy and Joyce Anglin Gillen, was born November 7, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She had worked for Wal-Mart as a greeter and was known for her love of reading. She was a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her son: Randy Million of Richmond; her sister: Lillian Byrd of California; three grandchildren: Mark Joel Million, Alyson Leigh Million and Melanie Jo Lane and her loving friend: Dale Land.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Million is also preceded in death by husband: Joel T. Million; her daughter: Bonnie Million; her sister: Nancy Hazelwood and her brother: George Gillen.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Wayne Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

RICHMOND — Bradford Michael Wood, 34, of Richmond, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012, in his home. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., on June 15, 1977, to Nancy Tackett Wood of Richmond. He was a machinist.
In addition to his mother, survivors include: his loving sister, Stacey Wood of Richmond; his son, Ethan Michael Wood of Richmond; and his daughter, Ava Brooke Wood of Lawrenceburg.
