The City of Berea is now accepting applications for two positions.
SEASONAL PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER
Applicants MUST be 18 years of age or older, hold a valid KY Drivers License, have a high school diploma (or equivalent), be able to lift 50 pounds, and be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays from March-October. Applications are available online or may be picked up at City Hall, 212 Chestnut Street or Berea Parks & Recreation, 8 Pirate Parkway. The Brodhead Fire Department cleared the scene of an early morning trailer fire on Fuzzy Duck Rd. No one lived in the residence at the time of the fire. Brodhead fire responded with Engine 11, Tanker 14, Tanker 15 and Rescue 13 with 7 firefighters. BFD was assisted at the scene by Mount Vernon Fire Department. No injuries occurred and all units returned to service.
DUI/Drug Arrest: On 01/22/2015 Officers were advised of a reckless driver on Paint Lick Road. They located the vehicle on Jefferson Street and observed that it was weaving in the roadway. A traffic stop was conducted after the vehicle drifted into the opposing lane and nearly ran on to the sidewalk. The driver of the vehicle had slurred speech and seemed disoriented.
Officers determined that the driver was under the influence and they arrested 62 year old Betty Speaks of Stanford KY. Assault/Tampering Charges: On 01/23/2015, police charged Jonathan C. Shearer, age 23, Lexington, for numerous offenses following a traffic stop.
At approximately 9:32 A.M., officers were alerted to a possible drunk driver by a deputy jailer at the MCDC. Officers located and stopped the vehicle on Kim Kent Drive and identified the driver as Shearer. Upon making contact with Shearer, officers suspected that he was intoxicated and directed him to exit the vehicle. Kentucky State Police say black ice was the cause of a Madison County School Bus crash. The bus slid off Kirksville Road this morning after hitting a patch of black ice. Police say children were on board at the time of the crash but there were no injuries.
UPDATE: This morning an autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort, Ky. As a result of the autopsy, it was determined that the victim died as a result of a gunshot wound. The deceased victim has been identified as Ellen C. Townsend, 29 years old of Irvine.
The ongoing investigation indicates Townsend was last seen in a silver Chrysler sedan with Ricky W. Conrad, 44 years old of Irvine.
This morning at approximately 10:30 am, Lexington Police Department located Ricky Conrad in a silver Chrysler sedan. Conrad was found deceased inside the vehicle, which was parked in the St. Joseph Hospital parking lot on N. Eagle Creek Drive in Lexington. Mount Vernon Fire Department cleared the scene of a second residential structure fire in the city within the past 12 hours.

The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was contacted by the Estill County Sheriff’s Office just after 10:30 am this morning, in reference to a female that had been found deceased on Noland Creek Road in rural Estill County.
Personnel from the KSP Richmond Post responded to the scene and found the female victim laying on the side of the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound. The unidentified female was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Estill County Coroner.
